Dear
Sir,
On
August 9, 1987 my Boy Scout Troop and I took a canoe trip down the White
River near Whitehall, Michigan. The weather was very bad. It was raining all
day and we were very cold. We had made plans to stay overnight rain or not.
I knew it would be a rough go from here, due to foul weather.
My
Scoutmaster told me to build a fire and I asked everyone who had matches to
give them to me. All of the matches were no good except for one pack and
they did not last long. At this point, all the cold eyes of my friends
looked down on me. I was willing to try the two sticks method, but through
constant searching, I came up with something.
Recently, I received a Magnesium Firestarter from my good friend Ace Extrom,
an outdoor writer. I had placed it in my pack prior to the trip, and felt
that it was a blessing that it was there. After ten minutes a fire was
going. I burned everything I could find, even my only dry shirt. About a
half an hour passed and all was well. Everyone was warm.
I
would like to thank you for the firestarter which protected against the
threat of hypothermia and started the fire.
Thank you,
Mathew
